Ashtanga yoga is a modernised form of yoga popularised by K. Pattabhi Jois. It contains many groupings of ‘asanas’ and embodies the original teachings on vinyasa, drishti, bandhas, mudras and philosophy. Ashtanga yoga denotes ‘eight-limbed yoga’ symbolising the eight spiritual practices as a means to external cleansing and internal purification. To practice Ashtanga yoga in its true sense, one must adopt the daily practice of asanas to stabilise the mind and body and make it strong and healthy. The correct practice of Ashtanga yoga incorporates set combinations of breathing and movement (Vinyasa), which helps in internal cleansing. It improves blood circulation, relieves joint pains, removes toxins and prevents diseases of the internal organs. You begin to feel light and strong with the practice of this form of yoga.
